Our Mission

The Brewfair Co-op is a cooperatively managed group of community members focused on bringing a food co-op to Brewerytown, Fairmount, and the wider north Philly community. 

Our Short-Term Objectives

  • Find 1,000 interested neighbors and community members who want to be engaged in efforts to bring a food co-op to Brewerytown and Fairmount, including volunteering and supporting fundraising efforts 

  • Formally incorporate as a co-op to help secure resourcing from co-op development organizations and local/state government programs. 

  • Begin a pledge drive to collect member equity.

  • Collect community feedback on priorities, needs, and desires for the food co-op

  • Formalize market potential, financial feasibility, and design feasibility studies in collaboration with co-op development consultants.

Our Long-Term Objectives

  • Create membership program and expand board of directors

  • Hire leadership staff to lead day-to-day development projects

  • Raise initial capital investment from members to secure long-term storefront and infrastructure requirements

  • Hire staff, secure physical store front, and acquire necessary assets for long-term co-op management

  • Open Brewfair co-op physical store to members and all members of the community

Achieving our goals

Co-ops follow a shared development philosophy to ensure that they are set up for long-term success, organized in 3 distinct phases: 

The Brew/Fair co-op is currently in the organizing phase, which is focused on generating support, creating a shared vision, and aligning on long-term goals.

3 Stages of Co-op Development

1. Organizing:

  1. Creating a shared vision, identifying members, creating member programs, and incorporating as a co-op
  2. Begin fundraising and member equity efforts
  3. Brew/Fair co-op is in this stage

2. Feasibility & Planning:

  1. Confirming market potential, conducting design and financial feasibility studies, and formalizing business plans

3. Implementation:

  1. Site selection and facilities design, staffing, merchandising, and marketing program plans
